Danube Projects Inventory Print E-mail

The Danube Projects Inventory  is a pilot activity launched under the framework of the Partnership for Improvement of Danube Infrastructure and Navigation (PIDIN) of the Southeast European Cooperative Initiative. The main goal of the Inventory is to provide a comprehensive overview of inland waterways transport and navigation related projects within the Danube River Basin area. It additionally wishes to provide relevant stakeholders with comprehensive and accurate online information on such projects from a regional perspective.

The information provided within the Inventory has been gathered on the basis of open source information. For the purpose of providing clear and synthetic information on the main characteristics of the particular project, a few guiding principles have been selected, on the basis of which the available open source information was collected, evaluated and synthesised. More about the criteria taken into consideration in this respect and under each information category you can find in the User Guide.

The information provided within this Inventory include information provided by news and media (international as much as national and local), available on official websites of relevant institutions and authorities, or provided within the officially available documents and presentations of public institutions and representatives on various occasions (mainly specialised conferences and similar public events). It sometimes happened that information by various open sources on one and the same project contradicted each-other or that several different projects dealt with one and the same inland waterway section in a different manner. To the extent to which this was possible, such information was verified with relevant authorities and/or connections between various projects or project ideas have been shown in the present form of the Inventory. A selected list of consulted open source policy and project specific documents is available in the Danube library section.

The Inventory is conceived as an interactive tool for all those who would like to have an overview of the inland waterways transport and navigation infrastructure-related projects and project ideas within the Danube River Basin, as well as, as a useful tool for promotion of the activities undertaken within each of the Danube River Basin countries and in view of future harmonisation of development activities within this region. In view of its further development and growth as a useful reference instrument, comments, updates or additions to the Database are welcome through the Project submission, update and comments link. Please use the recommended procedures in order to ensure suitable feedback and information maintenance.

Last, but not least, this Inventory is not meant to have a standardising character. The main idea behind it is to provide all interested parties with a synthesised information on the various standards and development ideas concerning inland waterways transport- and navigation-related infrastructure for the Danube region, both from a regional as much as from a national and local perspective.

We use this opportunity to express our gratitude to all those that assisted us in streamlining and clarifying the gathered information and who provided us with valuable insight concerning the actual development of the projects.
